Weekly Round-Up – January 14th, 2012

in My Stock Portfolio and News

Happy New Year! Last week I highlighted my 2012 investment goals and how I plan to build my dividend income portfolio this year. My goal is to invest $6,000 in new money while continuing to reinvest all dividends using DRIP. If my calculations are correct, I should be close to earning $500 in dividends this year, which is double what I earned in 2011.

Enough about my 2012 goals, let’s take a look at some inspiring posts from the past couple of weeks.

Buy Stocks Online – Weekly Roundup

Every couple of weeks I highlight 5 articles I found interesting on other sites. Some articles are new, while others have been around for a while but still offer good insight into the world of investing. Here are my picks for this week.

The College Investor gives an overview about automatic investing and the steps required to set it up. I currently have automated investment plans setup for two stocks in my portfolio, each through the company’s direct stock purchase plan. Investors can also setup these types of accounts through discount brokers like ShareBuilder.

Dividend Growth Investor provides analysis on why we are not in a dividend bubble. Even though many investors are focusing on dividend stocks these days in a low interest rate environment, it does not mean these investments are overvalued. A great read if you are concerned about investing in dividend paying stocks right now.

A guest post on Dividend Ninja runs down 5 reasons to invest with DRIPs. If you are thinking twice about setting up DRIPs on your dividend stocks, you need to read this article to change your mind.

Dividend Growth Stocks highlights a list of stocks trading at a discount. Buying dividend stocks at a fair market value is something I have started to focus more attention on and this article helps!

The Passive Income Earner discusses the 2012 Canadian Dividend Aristocrats. There are plenty of good Canadian dividend paying stocks on this index that would fit nicely in my portfolio.
