The new year is right around the corner, which means it is time to start setting my goals for the new year. I have some lofty goals I would like to meet in 2012 when it comes to growing my dividend portfolio. For starters, I plan to double my dividend income from ~$250 this year to $500 next year. This will take some personal sacrifice, but is something I feel important.
Over the next week, I will be putting together my plan for meeting this goal and will provide specific details in the coming days.
Enough about my goals, let’s take a look at some inspiring posts from the past week.
Buy Stocks Online – Weekly Roundup
Each week I highlight 5 articles I found interesting on other sites. Some articles are new, while others have been around for a while but still offer good insight into the world of investing. Here are my picks for this week.
The Passive Income Earner gives us an update on dividend income earned for the month of December and for 2011. I love to read these highlights from other sites as it helps motivate me to build my portfolio. Hopefully my dividend income updates will motivate my readers just the same!
The Dividend Guy Blog talks about How to Build a Leveraged Dividend Portfolio in today’s market. I attempted this several years ago by taking out a Prosper loan and investing the money into a CanRoy. It didn’t work out too well for me, but I didn’t really plan it out very well.
Buy Like Buffett flips the argument about leverage investments in Why You Should Not Invest Using Leverage. I have never thought about using margin to invest, although I have dabbled with some options trading that could have been considered investing using leverage.
Dividend Monk discusses the importance of investnig in your health. I couldn’t agree more with the points made about the importance of spending more on healthy foods, which will lead to lower health care costs and fewer medical problems down the road.
Retire by 40 tells us Why You Shouldn’t Buy A House Just For The Mortgage Deduction. I really have never understood the argument about buying a house for the deduction. I have had friends and family members tell me not to pay off my mortgage early as I will lose my deduction. This philosophy makes no sense to me at all.
